WEEK 8 - Photo Manipulation
For week 8 we had to create an image composite from 4 source files which we had to take ourselves. I chose to theme my image around the Brisbane festival and used it's colour theme as the inspiration for the overall look of the composite.
Source 1- Stars
Technique
Photograph was taken with a Canon 80D using a 50mm 1.8 lens.

Process
This image was taken in my garden a few weeks ago with my camera set at a 15 second exposure at F1.8.

Reflection
This image captured a pretty good shot of the milky way, but I later discovered my camera was actually set to JPEG instead of RAW so I wasn't able to get as much detail as I would have liked when editing in Lightroom. This wasn't much of a problem as the image was going to be changed and recoloured in the composite but it was certainly something I will remember to check from now on.
Source 2 - Gate

Technique
Photograph was taken with a Canon 80D using a 18mm -135 lens

Process
This Image was taken at the entrance to the Brisbane Festival, I knew I wanted to theme my composite around the festival so I spent a day walking around capturing individual elements to use later

Reflection
This image worked exactly as I wanted it to, ideally I would have liked to capture it without people standing in front of it but as it was the entrance this was pretty much impossible and they were relatively easy to edit out later on.

Source 3 - City
Technique
Photographs were taken with a Canon 80D using a 18-135 lens

Process
This image was taken looking over at the Brisbane CBD from Southbank.

Reflection
The image serves its purpose pretty well and gives a good clear view of the main buildings. If I were to retake this image I would have liked to try a night shot to capture all the lights of the city to give it a different feeling.

Source 4 - Lemon

Lemon.
Copic Ink.

Process
This Image was left over from when I was doing the Photography 2 topic and was testing out different effects by putting objects in the water. The image features a lemon floating in a fish tank coloured by Copic ink.

Reflection
I didn't initially think I had a use for this image but when thinking of what to do for my composite its abstraction seemed perfect to create an alternate reality version of Brisbane city.
Brisbane Image Composite

Process
Ideally I would have liked to create this composite in Photoshop however I recently updated to Photoshop CC 2018 and now I would have more luck creating an image composite using a toaster. Instead I had to use Procreate which was an interesting challenge as it doesn't have as many adjustment tools or have clipping masks.

- To create the Image I first masked off the white space on the Lemon Image and made the water transparent.

- I then masked out the main buildings of the city and extended some of them down to cover where bushes blocked the lower windows. The warp tool was used to adjust the city to the curvature of the lemon (never thought I'd write that as a sentence).

- The stars were added behind the image and recoloured to fit the theme of the image.

- The Brisbane Festival sign was added and the people were edited out of the bottom left corner. The warp tool was used to make it more dynamic and fit the surface better.

Reflection
I'm not entirely happy with the outcome of this image. Ideally I would have liked to use Photoshop as it is much more powerful than Procreate and has much better Layer adjustment features as well as masking tools. However after updating my software my computer wasn't able to run photoshop at a useable speed so I had to use my iPad to create the composite. If I were to re-do this image I would love to use a computer that can actually run Photoshop at a useable speed so I could have access to better tools.
